  • Plasma cells (plasmacytes) are specialized cells that function as part of the body’s immune system. They are formed from ‘B’- type lymphocytes.

  • Under-stimulation, an excess of unused energy, and lack of appropriate opportunities for play can lead to play-related aggression. This may be exhibited as overly rambunctious or aggressive play, which inadvertently leads to injuries to people.

  • Pleural effusion refers to an accumulation of fluid within the pleural cavity. This fluid is usually located within the pleural sac which is a serous membrane covering the lungs. The pleural sac can be thought of as a "plastic wrap" around the lungs that can potentially hold fluid or air (a potential space).

  • Polycythemia vera, or “true” polycythemia, is a rare disease of dogs and cats in which too many red blood cells (RBCs) are produced by the bone marrow. This is the opposite of anemia, in which there are too few red blood cells.

  • Polysulfated glycosaminoglycan is used to control the signs associated with non-infectious degenerative and/or traumatic arthritis in dogs. This medication is a member of a unique class of drugs called Disease-Modifying Osteoarthritis Drugs (DMOAD).

  • After arriving at home, you should keep your cat warm and comfortable by providing a soft clean bed, ideally in a quiet and draft-free room at a comfortable room temperature. Your cat should remain indoors. For most procedures, your cat’s activity should be restricted for one full week after surgery. It is essential to avoid running, jumping, and other strenuous activity that could cause excessive strain on the wound.

  • Bromides such as potassium bromide are used to help control seizures in dogs and cats. They may be used alone or with other medication such as phenobarbital to help control seizures

  • Potassium chloride is used to treat dogs and cats with low potassium levels. Potassium supplements may be used to treat or prevent potassium deficiency.

  • Feline poxvirus is a member of the Orthopoxvirus group, which also includes vaccinia virus, the virus used as a vaccine in the successful eradication of smallpox in humans. The virus cannot be distinguished from cowpox virus, which is a rare cause of infection on the teats and udders of cattle.

  • Praziquantel is an anthelmintic. Anthelmintics are used to treat infections with worms and other types of parasites.
